8 places in Portugal worth the trip

Portugal is small, and its best-known places fit together well. Five of these eight line up as one drive from Lisbon to Porto: Lisbon, Sintra, Óbidos, Nazaré and Porto. The Douro Valley is a day trip from Porto. The Algarve is the south coast, about three hours from Lisbon. Madeira is an island in the Atlantic, a short flight away.
