About

Travel writing for people who can't take five weeks off.

Drift Vistas makes short films of real places that don't look real, and writes the guide to actually going. Every video shows real footage of the place it names. Every video has a page behind it that says when to go, where to stand, how long to give it and what to skip.

We also publish itineraries, destination essays and free guides for the trip you keep postponing, written for people with real jobs and limited days off. We don't print exact prices, because they go stale. Cost is described as proportions and comparisons drawn from public listings. When something is wrong, we fix the page.

We avoid the dead words. Stunning, breathtaking, hidden gem, bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime. They signal nothing and they hide everything. We try to describe the thing instead.

Principles

The rules we wrote down so we'd keep them.

01

Real footage. No AI.

Every shot is real footage or photography of the place it names, checked against the photographer's own description. If we can't find the real thing, we change the place, not the picture.

02

Underrated beats famous.

We send you to the destination whose famous neighbor absorbed all the press. Montenegro instead of Croatia. Albania instead of Greece. Tbilisi instead of Switzerland.

03

Doable, not aspirational.

Five days you can actually take. Plans that fit a normal year: limited days off, one big trip, a few short ones. We tell you the month, the hour and the mistake to avoid.

04

Disclose every link.

Some links here are affiliates. We say which ones. Recommendation came first; the link is plumbing. Affiliate income lets us keep the guides free.

05

Update, don't archive.

Prices age. Restaurants close. We refresh our guides regularly and keep estimates marked as directional. When we spot something out of date, we fix it; when you spot it first, you email us.

06

No dead words.

Stunning, breathtaking, hidden gem, bucket list, jet-setter, once-in-a-lifetime. They are signals of nothing. We replace each one with what the place actually is.
